Activities In and Around Central Valley

April 19, 2021

As California slowly begins to open its doors to activities, events and places, there is suddenly a lot more to do with your family besides endless game nights, TV binging and Zoom visits. While the list is still limited, we’ve found some places you can go to now or soon with your family around our beautiful Central Valley. Please check each of these businesses prior to attending to make sure you have the most recent visiting information.

Imagine U Children’s Museum: With a planned opening of May 1 and a few restrictions, kids and families can return to this Visalia-based educational institution that features child-centric exhibits focused on agriculture, science and art through play.

Fresno Chaffee Zoo: With the added benefit of being entirely outdoors, the zoo is always a fun day out with your family. Spend time on an African adventure, visiting kangaroos, stingrays and more at this educational and entertaining Fresno classic!

Castle Air Museum: This aviation museum gives visitors a peek into aviation history and an up-close look at such impressive aircraft from tankers, fighters and bombers. The exhibits are primarily outdoors, but the indoor museum is now open with limited access.

Applegate Park Zoo: This zoo is run by the Merced Zoological Society and while on a smaller scale, is focused on being a sanctuary for rescued animals. Animals visitors can see are bears, coyotes, deer, bobcat and a variety of birds and smaller animals.

Project Survival’s Cat Haven: If the excitement of visiting some of the rarest cats in the world isn’t enough to tempt you, it’s location will. Fifteen miles from the entrance of scenic Kings Canyon National Park your family can meet cats like a cheetah, cougar, leopard, tiger and more while learning about the park’s conservation program to help save these wonderful and endangered creatures.
