With today’s emphasis on cleaning and hygiene but a sometimes lack of supply in the stores right now, it’s time to get creative and take a more holistic approach to cleaning products. One of the main ingredients is vinegar. Here’s a list of what you can and can’t tackle with this mighty household staple.
What not to clean – Because of its chemical make up avoid waxed woods, rubber, natural stone, granite, cast iron and aluminum.
Toilets – To deodorize your toilet, pour ½ cup of white vinegar into the bowl and let it sit for 15 minutes and then flush.
Stovetops – The acidity of vinegar can help cut through grease. Spray straight white vinegar on the mess, wait 10 minutes and wipe with a warm, soapy cloth.
Cookie sheets – This cleaning solution will remind you of a school science project! Mix one part baking soda and one part vinegar with water in the sink. Submerge your sheets and let them soak in the bubbly mixture for about 30 minutes to an hour. Then use a scouring pad to scrub them clean.
Cloudy wine glasses – Soak them in non-diluted vinegar for a few minutes and then wipe them with a soft cloth and wash as normal. The vinegar should dissolve the mineral buildup.
Coffee maker, kettle or Keurig – Run a cycle through with a 1:1 ratio of vinegar and water if your beverage making appliance has a mineral buildup. Afterward run a few more cycles with straight water to remove the vinegar odor.
To make all of these tips a little easier store and label pre-made spray bottles with vinegar solutions in them already. You can have a 1:1 and a straight vinegar bottle on the ready for cleanup time.
