Moving into a new house can be stressful – not just for the people, but for the furry residents too! They also have had their familiar surroundings changed, and they may feel a little scared to roam in their new environment. Here are a few tips to help you ease the moving transition for your fur baby.
Stick to their routine. It may be difficult, especially in the beginning, but try to keep their routine as soon as you can. They’ll understand that although their surroundings are new, their day-to-day activities haven’t changed.
Pack their bag. Ensure items like their food bowl, favorite toy and cozy bed are easy to access on moving day. They’ll take comfort in having their familiar things close by even though the rooms are all different.
Let them run it out. If your new home has a back yard or if there is a dog park nearby, take them for an extra run to tire them out and expel the extra energy and apprehension they might be feeling.
Be patient. It may take some time for your pets to really feel comfortable in their new house. They may even be a little confused as to where everything is including key items like the litter box and the doggy door. Patiently show them around and expect a few mishaps along the way.
Do a test run. Especially for dogs, see if you can bring your dog to your new house to take a sniff around, maybe meet the neighbors. If you can do this a few times before you move, your pet will already be in love with your new home the day you move!
Done correctly, moving with a pet can be an easy transition for all involved.
