New Homes In Hanford, CA And Things To Do In The Surrounding Community

Lisa Walker • April 20, 2015

You have decided to move to Hanford, California. Whether it was your choice, a job transfer, or a decision your spouse made and you have simply decided to support your spouse, moving to the land of the unknown can be a little scary. If you are moving from a larger city such as Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose, San Francisco, or even Fresno, you might be wondering if there will be anything for you to do in Hanford. You could be concerned you will either have to go to another city for fun or spend most of your time at home.

At San Joaquin Homes, we want you to love your community as well as your home. To help you get a feel for new homes in Hanford, CA we have looked at some of the variety of things to enjoy in the city.

Keller Auto Speedway

Keller Auto Speedway is located at Kings Fairgrounds in Hanford. A variety of different auto racing events take place at the track. Although there are some exceptions, most events are $12 for an Adult General Admission ticket and $15 for a Reserved Ticket. Most events include discounts for those 18 and younger as well as those 55 and older. The 2015 season runs from March 28 to October 31 with nineteen racing events. All races take place either on a Friday or a Saturday. If you have never had the experience to see a live auto race, visiting Keller Auto Speedway could be a fun new opportunity.

Kings County Fair

The Kings County Fair always has an assortment of fun for the whole family. An exact listing of what will take place at this summer’s fair is not yet available, but there are certain things you can expect. There will be rides. There will be entertainment. There will be farm animals. If you have never had the opportunity to visit a county fair, going to one in your new hometown could be a great experience.

The timing of the fair is perfect too. This year’s fair runs from June 11-14. With public schools in the area finishing the year on June 5, the kids will have had about a week to enjoy their summer break. While some kids will still be enjoying the time off from school, others will be starting to get a little bored and want to do something out of the ordinary.

There are also a variety of events which take place on the fairgrounds throughout the year. Check out the event calendar for the Kings County Fairgrounds.

Kings Players

The Kings Players offer a variety of shows for the Hanford community. From May 29- June 21, “Tribute to the Movie Musical” will take place with shows every Friday through Sunday. “Tribute to the Movie Musical” includes music from shows such as “Hairspray,” “The Wizard of Oz,” and a variety of Disney classics.

Of course, not everyone finds musical theater enjoyable. If you fall into that category, you might instead enjoy “Wait Until Dark,” which runs every weekend in September. This play involves, Susy, a blind woman who is home alone when three men show up to her apartment. They are looking for a doll a woman gave to Susy’s husband for safekeeping. Unbeknownst to Susy and her husband, the doll has several grams of heroin sewn into it, and that is what the bad guys really want. Thus begins a battle of wits in which Susy is trying to avoid getting killed while also preventing the men from getting the doll. Fans of older movies may remember Audrey Hepburn playing the part of Susy in the 1967 movie.

There are a variety of other shows planned by the Kings Players for the future. Tickets to an individual show are $12 each, and season passes are $50. Each summer, the Kings Players also offer a summer drama program for children first through eighth grade. That is a great way to keep the kids entertained.

There are so many other things you can do in Hanford. Although it is currently shut down for extensive renovations, the Hanford Fox Theater should be reopening later this year. They have been host to movies, musical performances, comedy acts, and other forms of entertainment. You can also learn about a variety of events taking place in Hanford by viewing the Chamber of Commerce calendar. Of course, maybe one of the best ways to know the best places for fun in Hanford is to ask your new neighbors.
