Spring Cleaning Tips

March 4, 2019

Spring has almost sprung, so it’s time to get cracking on the all-important spring cleaning. Your house will feel fresher and cleaner and, in turn, be a happier place to be in. Here is a short list of chores to tackle from the inside out!

1. Get Scrubbing! Give all your walls, baseboards and outlets a new refreshed look by removing the dust and dirt that’s been settling on them all winter. Use mild grease cutting cleaners to clean outlet plates (little fingers love to stick to these!). If you remove them from the wall for a deep clean, be sure they are dry before replacing. For hard to remove stains, gently clean stubborn areas with a magic eraser but test a small area first to make sure paint doesn’t come off walls.

2. Wash the Windows. Nothing makes a room look cleaner and brighter than squeaky clean windows. Either hire a service to take care of these (those second stories can be tricky!) or invest in a good squeegee and window cleaning solution. If you’re not comfortable on a ladder you can purchase extendable handles at hardware stores.

3. Eschew the Achoo! One of the best ways to rid your house of allergens is to avoid them in the first place. You can do this by keeping clutter to a minimum, doing deep dusting, damp mopping and vacuuming regularly, washing throw rugs and changing air filters often.

4. Don’t Ignore the Outdoors. After a long winter, outdoor furniture receives its fair amount of abuse from winds to rain to dust. Using a sponge soaked in a recipe of 1 teaspoon of dishwashing detergent, 1 quart of warm water and 1 tablespoon of Borax, wipe down outdoor cushions, spray with a hose and dry in the sun. Sweep and hose down patios, weed the garden and clean up all the trash that may have settled on windy days.

Once you’ve started and finished your spring cleaning list your house will feel new and refreshed – ready for indoor and outdoor entertaining and enjoyment with your friends and family. Of course, starting with a brand new home this spring will make the cleaning even easier! You can visit our models to see which house your lifestyle will suit the best.
