Upcoming Events You Must Attend In The Central Valley

Lisa Walker • October 17, 2016

Whether you’re just thinking about buying a house or are already moved in, you and your family will find a lot to do once you step outside one of our homes for sale in the Central Valley. Here are just a few of the top upcoming events near our communities:

Dinuba Dog Days/Bark For Life (Oct. 22)
Celebrate our four-legged friends at the Dinuba Dog Days/Bark for Life at Nebraska Park in Dinuba. The event is sponsored by the Lion’s Club and the American Cancer Society, among others. Register the family pet for only $10 and you can participate in obedience lessons, the dog parade, a raffle, and such contests as Dog/Owner Look Alike, Doggie Musical Chairs, and Best Costume. Hot dogs and a drink are included. Make sure your pooch is on a leash and wear purple to support cancer awareness. Vaccinations, micro chips, and licensing are available at extra cost.

Christmas Tree Lane (Dec. 3 – 25)
If displays of Christmas trees, gingerbread houses, and lights get you in the holiday mood, then head for
Christmas Tree Lane in Fresno. About two miles with 140 homes and 300 trees light up from 6 PM to 10 PM for your viewing. You can drive the route at any time, but the best times to visit are during walk nights on Saturday, Dec. 3, and Tuesday, Dec. 13, when no cars are allowed. Don’t be surprised if you see Santa or his elves wandering around to spread good cheer. The event is free but donations are accepted to support the event.

Christmas Tree Auction (Dec. 9)
Decorate your home and support local non-profits at the
Visalia Christmas Tree Auction, which has been going strong for 35 years, and is being held at the Convention Center. The basic ticket to this black-tie event gets you finger food, wine tasting, dessert, dancing, and the chance to bid on beautifully decorated trees. The VIP option adds a full sit-down dinner to the experience. If you don’t bid high enough to get your own tree, you can always participate in a raffle for one.

World Ag Expo (Feb. 14-16, 2017)
Want to find out about what agriculture in the Central Valley is all about? Then check out the
World Ag Expo, an annual event of international proportions that attracts over 100,000 visitors from over 50 countries. More than 1,500 exhibitors display on 2.6 million square feet of show grounds in Tulare. Catch tours to local operations and farms, attend seminars by and for those in the industry, enjoy local delicacies at the Wine and Cheese Pavilion, and sign up to win a 2016 Toyota Tundra. If you’re interested in participating, you can always volunteer in such positions as school tour guide, interpreter, guest services, or photography.

Rogue Festival (Mar. 2-11, 2017)
Better make your reservations now for one of the biggest arts events in California. The
Rogue Festival in Fresno is a celebration of theater, dance, spoken work, performance art, music, independent film, and magic.

Tickets typically cost $10 or less per performance and the events are non-juried. That means the festival accepts all comers and you never know what you’re going to get. (Applications for performers are already filled but you can always get on the waiting list.) Post your own on-line reviews or encourage others by word-of-mouth to check out your favorite shows. Last year’s festival sold over 9,400 tickets to 294 shows by 68 performances.

The distance to these events depend on which of our developments you’re coming from.
