Fourth of July Activities To Do with Family and Friends

Jun 28, 2021

The Fourth of July is rolling around again and it’s always a wonderful time to celebrate with friends and family. While there are some fireworks shows and festivals in the area, you may be planning to spend the day closer to home. If so, here are some fun ideas to get into the patriotic spirit!

Dress the part. Don’t let one member of your family wear any color but red, white and blue. You can even mix it up by assigning a single color to each person or have some of them wear stripes and stars only. Take a family picture to remember your fun and festive wardrobe choices! Frame it and display it for years to come.

Light Up the Night. If your city allows personal fireworks, put on your own little display. Of course, follow all safety rules and make sure the ones you want to set off are legal to your community. If you’re not sure, contact your city officials. Buy some glow sticks too so the kids can shine and make lighted bracelets and necklaces.

Host a BBQ. Fire up the grill for your immediate family or a few close friends and spend the day playing back yard games, enjoying yummy food and drinks, and reminiscing about the fun times you’ve had together and the ones yet to come!

Organize a neighborhood parade. Let your kids spend the morning decorating their bikes, wagons, tricycles, scooters and any other wheeled ride with patriotic colors, streamers, beads and flags. Send flyers in advance asking all the adults to sit out front to watch and cheer on the spectacle. The children will love parading their independence themed rides!

Paint your lawn. Create a giant star template out of cardboard and using utility marking spray paint, spray red, white and blue stars on your grass lawn. The kids will love jumping from star to star and your neighbors will appreciate your patriotic effort. Clean up requires mowing the grass!
